EPFO: When will you be able to withdraw PF money from ATM, what will be the limit?
Withdrawing PF funds will no longer require a lengthy process, as the EPFO is launching ATM withdrawals in 2026. Members will be issued a special card for this purpose.
If you're employed and your PF is deducted, this news will bring you great relief. Until now, withdrawing your PF funds required lengthy online processes or frequent visits to offices, but all of this will soon be history.
The EPFO is preparing to introduce a revolutionary feature that will allow you to withdraw money from your PF account just as you would from a bank ATM.
According to media reports, this feature could be rolled out to millions of subscribers across the country in 2026. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
EPFO's 'special card' will work like a debit card.
Under this new system, the EPFO plans to issue a "special card" to its members. This card will function much like your bank debit card. According to reports, the government believes that PF funds belong to the account holder and should be easily accessible in times of crisis.
To this end, the EPFO has completed initial discussions with banks and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It is claimed that the technical infrastructure required for ATM withdrawals is almost ready.
The lives of millions of employed people will become easier.
This decision will directly impact over 70 million employees working in the country's organized sector. Looking at EPFO data, its coverage has expanded significantly over the past decade. In 2014, the organization had 33 million subscribers and a fund of ₹7.4 lakh crore, which has now grown to over ₹28 lakh crore.
Around 78 million people contribute to the PF account every month. As the fund's size and membership grew, facilitating claim settlement was a major challenge for the EPFO. The introduction of ATMs will not only ensure instant access to funds for employees but will also reduce the EPFO's workload.
There is still suspense over the limit, but preparations are complete.
While ATM withdrawals will be available, there will be a limit. It's currently unclear how much you can withdraw at a time or monthly. The withdrawal limit is yet to be decided.
It's worth noting that the EPFO is constantly simplifying its rules. Earlier this year, the organization increased the automatic claim settlement limit to ₹5 lakh, making it easier to withdraw funds for expenses like illness or marriage.
