Inflation shock in the new year, gas cylinder prices rise the most in 28 months

Three of the country's four metropolitan areas have seen an increase of ₹111, while one has seen an increase of ₹110. Consequently, the price of a commercial gas cylinder in the national capital, Delhi, has reached nearly ₹1,700, the highest since June 2025. While prices nationwide have reached nearly ₹1,850. Meanwhile, domestic gas cylinder prices have remained unchanged.

 

The new year has begun with a significant shock. This shock is inflation. While the government has reduced the price of piped natural gas, it has also increased the price of gas cylinders. 

Significantly, this is the largest increase in gas cylinder prices in 28 months. This means that the last such significant increase was in October 2023. In fact, this increase has been seen in the price of commercial gas cylinders.

Rise in the price of commercial gas cylinders

According to IOCL data, commercial gas cylinder prices have seen a rise. This is the first increase of more than ₹100 since November 2023. This is the largest increase in commercial gas cylinder prices since October 2023.

Commercial Lpg Price

Commercial gas cylinder prices have increased by ₹111 in the metropolitan cities of Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, bringing the price of a commercial gas cylinder to ₹1,691.50, ₹1,795, and ₹1,642.50, respectively. In Chennai, the price of a commercial gas cylinder has increased by ₹110, bringing the price to ₹1,849.50.

There is no change in the price of domestic gas cylinders.

On the other hand, there has been no change in the price of domestic gas cylinders. According to IOCL data, the price of a domestic gas cylinder in the national capital, Delhi, is ₹853, in Kolkata ₹879, in Mumbai ₹852.50, and in Chennai ₹868.50. The last change in the price of a domestic gas cylinder was in April 2025.

Domestic LPG Price

When domestic companies increased the price of gas cylinders by ₹50. However, the government last reduced the price of domestic gas cylinders in March 2024, just before the Lok Sabha elections. At that time, the government reduced the price of domestic LPG by ₹100.
