He announced a $17.5 billion investment in India, stating that this investment will be used to strengthen AI-based infrastructure, skill development, and digital capabilities in India.
This investment will provide new opportunities for Indian youth in the AI sector and is a major step towards making India a global AI hub.

Nadella made the investment plan public in a social media post shortly after meeting Prime Minister Modi in Delhi. He thanked Prime Minister Modi and said, "Microsoft is investing $17.5 billion to support the country's ambitions.
This is our largest investment ever in Asia to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India's AI-first future."
PM Modi's response: India will become a leader in AI
PM Modi described the meeting as productive and called it a historic moment for India. He said that India being the center of Microsoft's largest Asian investment is proof that the world is confident in India's potential. PM Modi said that India's youth will create a better future by harnessing AI technology.
What is Microsoft's AI strategy?
Nadella's visit aims to expand the cloud and AI market in India. Previously, in January 2025, Microsoft announced a $3 billion investment.
Microsoft is working on a plan to teach AI skills to 10 million people in India by 2030. Significantly, this initiative is focusing on women and small towns.
Preparing for the Microsoft 365 Copilot Launch
To make AI a safe and compliant system in India, Microsoft will launch 365 Copilot with local data processing in India by the end of 2025.
It will be used in the government, BFSI, and healthcare sectors, ensuring data security and policy compliance. This move will bring India closer to global standards for AI technology.
