ChatGPT Group Chats: OpenAI has launched a group chat feature in ChatGPT. This feature allows users to work and plan with friends, family, or work teams in a single chat.
Currently, this feature is in pilot mode in New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. This feature will allow AI to understand conversations and engage at the right time, avoiding replying to every message. The company says it will be rolled out to more countries based on initial feedback.
New feature introduction and rollout plan
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Group Chats as a major feature to enhance collaboration. It's currently in the pilot stage and available to users in New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. The company says it will roll out the feature to other countries based on initial feedback. The goal is to position ChatGPT as more than just a chatbot, but also a collaborative AI tool.
AI's new role in group chats
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT will now behave differently within group chats. The AI will understand the flow of the conversation and interact at the right time, rather than immediately responding to every message.
Users can tag the AI model in chat to invite it into specific conversations. ChatGPT can also now react to your messages with emojis, making chats and interactions more natural.
How to create a group and what are its limitations?
Users can start a group chat by tapping the new "People icon" in the corner of the app. ChatGPT then generates a shareable link that users can share with friends, family, or teams.
Groups can have up to 20 conversation threads, allowing for manageable chat flow. If an existing chat is converted to a group, the AI creates a copy of that chat to protect private conversations. Furthermore, the group creator can add or remove participants and set custom instructions.
