Google has launched a new safety and emergency feature, Emergency Location Service, for Android users. This feature will only work with compatible Android devices.

It allows you to call or text emergency service providers like police, healthcare professionals, and firefighters in an emergency, and it will also share your location. Let's find out which state in the country launched this service first.

Facility started in this state

Google Emergency Location Services was first launched in Uttar Pradesh. The feature was rolled out for devices running Android 6 and newer. However, to activate ELS, state authorities must integrate it with their services.

The company said it has activated the ELS feature on Android smartphones in India. This feature allows users to share their location via call or SMS to seek assistance from emergency service providers like police, medical staff, and firefighters.

The feature combines data from GPS, WiFi, and cellular networks to determine a user's precise location and claims to be able to pinpoint a person's location with an accuracy of up to 50 meters.

The ELS feature requires support from the local wireless and emergency infrastructure operator. In India, Uttar Pradesh became the first state to fully launch this service for Android devices.

The state police, in collaboration with Pert Telecom Solutions, integrated ELS support with the emergency number 112. This is a free service that tracks a user's location when 112 is dialed from an Android phone.
