Youth's interest in the IT sector is increasing, demand is expected to increase by 2025
Demand for IT jobs in India has increased by 16%, with over 1.8 million openings projected to be created by 2025, with new technology skills like AI, cloud, and cybersecurity being the most sought-after.
India's IT sector appears to be regaining momentum. The total demand for IT jobs is projected to reach 1.8 million in 2025, an increase of approximately 16 percent compared to last year.
This information is revealed in Quess Corp's report, "IT Workforce Trends in India 2025." According to the report, new technologies and the growing presence of global companies have strengthened the IT job market.
This growth is largely driven by the establishment of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India by foreign companies. GCCs are projected to account for nearly 27 percent of total IT hiring in 2025, up from approximately 15 percent a year earlier.
These centers are working on advanced technology, data, and digital projects in India, driving a rapid increase in demand for skilled professionals.
The report shows that a large portion of IT hiring is now focused on emerging digital skills. Jobs have grown rapidly in areas such as AI, machine learning, cloud, DevOps, and cybersecurity. Meanwhile, legacy technology skills have fallen to less than 10 percent and are steadily declining.
More opportunities for experienced professionals
IT companies are now prioritizing experienced individuals over freshers. Professionals with 4 to 10 years of experience accounted for approximately 65 percent of total hiring, while entry-level jobs remained limited to just 15 percent. This clearly indicates that companies are prioritizing talent that can handle tasks quickly.
There was also an increase in salary
Salaries in roles related to new technologies have also risen sharply. Positions such as generative AI, MLOps, cyber threat analysts, and cloud and platform architects have seen salaries increase by 10 to 40 percent. This has also led to a growing trend among IT professionals to learn these skills.
IT jobs are still largely confined to Tier-1 cities, which account for approximately 90 percent of total demand. Furthermore, companies are now adopting more rigorous selection processes, resulting in hiring times of 45 to 60 days. For specific skills, this time is even reaching 90 days.
The momentum will continue going forward
According to the report, IT hiring is expected to continue in 2026. New digital technologies, AI, and cloud roles are expected to gradually expand opportunities in tier-2 cities.
