Coughing in the morning? Doctor shares home remedies for prevention

If you wake up in the morning with a cough, it could be a sign of several problems. However, some home remedies can provide relief. Dr. Bhagwan Mantri and Dr. R.P. Parashar explain this.

Cough news

Winter has begun. Some people experience a cough as soon as they wake up in the morning. Others also experience a sore throat and mucus production.

This is due to the dry air and increased allergies. This cough is usually not serious or a sign of a serious illness. However, if it persists for more than two weeks, you should consult a doctor. If the cough is mild, you can also follow these tips from doctors.

Dr. Bhagwan Mantri, of the Pulmonology Department at Moolchand Medicity Hospital in Delhi, explains that coughs can be caused by allergies or bacteria. Allergy problems increase in winter compared to summer.

However, some methods can provide relief from coughs. The most important thing is to start drinking lukewarm water every morning in winter.

This is because people tend to drink less water in winter, causing dehydration. Drinking a glass of lukewarm water on an empty stomach in the morning reduces dryness in the throat. It also soothes the respiratory tract and removes impurities from the throat, providing relief from cough symptoms.

Ginger and honey

Dr. Mantri explains that anyone, except children under one year old, can consume ginger and honey. This is a very effective remedy for cough relief.

If the cough is dry, start taking a teaspoon of grated ginger and a teaspoon of honey before bed. This significantly reduces morning cough and provides significant relief.

Steam is very beneficial

Dr. RP Parashar, Chief Ayurvedic Officer for the Delhi government, explains that steam is very beneficial in relieving coughs. It's a remedy that helps reduce coughs. Steam inhalation before bedtime clears your respiratory tract and provides relief from coughs.

Eat a light dinner

Dr. Parashar explains that eating food is also linked to coughing. Eating a heavy meal late at night increases acidity, which increases the risk of acid reflux at night. Therefore, try to eat dinner at least two hours before bedtime.

Both Dr. Parashar and Dr. Mantri say that if these remedies work initially, it's fine. If they don't, then you should consult a doctor for your cough. Don't take any syrups or medicines on your own.
