Persistent cough due to pollution? Follow these Ayurvedic tips

Pollution levels are steadily rising in many areas, including Delhi-NCR. This is becoming a major cause of cough problems. In this situation, Ayurveda practitioner Dr. R.P. Parashar explains which Ayurvedic tips should be adopted to cure cough. Let's find out.

Cough remedies

Pollution levels are steadily rising in many parts of the country. The most common problem currently affecting people is a persistent cough. Fine particles in polluted air irritate the lining of the throat and lungs, leading to mucus and a dry cough.

This is especially true for children, the elderly, and those with existing respiratory conditions. Therefore, it is important that people exercise caution and not take coughs lightly.

Pollution-related coughs have several early symptoms, including a persistent sore throat, dry or phlegmy cough, chest irritation, shortness of breath, sore throat, and nasal congestion.

Many people experience a severe cough upon waking because polluted particles accumulate in the respiratory system overnight.

If this problem persists for a long time, it can develop into more serious problems like bronchitis, asthma, lung infections, and inflammation of the respiratory system.

A persistent cough also affects sleep, appetite, and daily activities. Therefore, if pollution increases coughing, it is crucial to recognize the symptoms and seek timely care.

Follow these Ayurvedic methods to prevent cough

Dr. R.P. Parashar, an Ayurveda specialist with the Delhi government, explains that according to Ayurveda, cleansing the body's immune system and respiratory system is essential for controlling pollution-related coughs.

Drinking a pinch of turmeric mixed with lukewarm water first thing in the morning is considered beneficial. The curcumin in turmeric reduces inflammation and prevents infection.

Tulsi water, a basil-ginger decoction, or licorice tea soothes the throat and calms coughs. Steam inhalation is also very effective, loosening mucus and easing breathing.

Ayurveda also uses Chyawanprash, Sitopaladi powder, and licorice powder to boost immunity. Taking a pinch of turmeric mixed with ghee at home can also provide relief from coughs and dry throat.

This is also necessary

  1. Always wear a mask when going out.
  2. Eat 45 basil leaves in the morning and evening.
  3. Use an air purifier at home.
  4. Avoid dusty and smoky areas.
  5. Drink more water, keep the body hydrated.
