Many changes occur in a woman's body during pregnancy. A woman needs proper nutrition. Good nutrition ensures the health of both mother and child.

Therefore, it's crucial to take care of your diet. Experts say that eating healthy during pregnancy is essential. A balanced diet should include protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, and minerals, which contribute to the mother's health and the baby's development.

Both iron and calcium are essential in the diet. Iron is essential for preventing anemia; calcium is essential for bone development; folic acid is essential for growth; and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for fetal brain and nerve development.

Adequate water and food intake are essential to relieve morning sickness and provide energy throughout the day. Limit caffeine and excessively sugary snacks.

Why is proper nutrition important during pregnancy?

Dr. Aparna Jha of Apollo Cradle and Children's Hospital explains that proper nutrition is essential for a woman during pregnancy. A good diet is essential for the baby's growth, organ development, and brain function.

According to AIIMS and WHO guidelines, an additional 300 to 350 calories and more vitamins are needed daily during pregnancy, as a pregnant woman requires more food than a normal woman.

While iron and folic acid medications are recommended during this time, a woman should also include fruits, vegetables, and dried fruits in her diet.

A pregnant woman needs 27 mg of iron daily. This prevents anemia. Protein, calcium, vitamin D, and omega fatty acids are also essential. Fiber is also essential, so eat whole grains. Hydration is also important, and drinking at least seven to eight glasses of water daily is essential.
